About Grillacoat

Grillacoat is a protective non-stick coating designed to restore, protect, and extend the life of your grill's exterior and non-cooking surfaces. It helps keep your grill looking newer for longer while making cleanup easier and preventing buildup of grease, dirt, grime, and weather-related damage. Also good for outdoor kitchen appliances.

Key Benefits:

Non-stick

  • Helps reduce buildup of grease, smoke stains, and grime on treated surfaces.
  • Makes routine wipe-downs faster and easier and minimizes the need for chemicals.

Restorative effect

  • Enhances the appearance of faded, dull, or lightly oxidized surfaces.
  • Helps bring back a richer, deeper finish on painted and coated metal.

Weathering protection

  • Provides a protective barrier against rust, corrosion, moisture, dirt, grease and grime.
  • Ideal for grills stored outdoors or exposed to rain, sun, and temperature swings.
  • Great for outdoor kitchen areas.

Longevity

  • Helps extend the usable life of exterior surfaces by reducing wear from the elements.
  • Can help minimize the need for frequent refinishing or replacement of parts.
  • Lasts until removed

Heat resistance

  • Formulated to withstand the elevated temperatures commonly found on exterior grill surfaces and under the hood (when used as directed and allowed to fully dry before use).

Easy application

  • Wipe-on application with the included applicator pad.
  • Spreads quickly, levels well, and does not require specialized tools.

Works on multiple surfaces

  • Suitable for most painted, coated, or enameled metal surfaces typically found on grills, such as: Outer lid and body, Under-hood surfaces (not including grates), Side shelves (non-wood, non-cutting surfaces), Control panel area, Cabinet doors, stands, and legs, Grease Traps
  • Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first.

Safe near food

  • Non-toxic, heat-resistant, and safe for use around food preparation areas when used as directed.
  • Important: Grillacoat is not for use on cooking surfaces that directly contact food.

Important Safety & Use Guidelines

  • Do NOT apply to cooking surfaces. Do not use Grillacoat on grill grates, smoker racks, rotisserie rods, griddle plates, or any surface where food sits or is cooked directly.
  • For external and non-cooking surfaces only. Safe for use on and under the hood and all exterior surfaces, as long as they do not directly contact food.
  • Use in a well-ventilated area. Apply outdoors or in an open, ventilated space.
  • Only apply to cool surfaces. Make sure the grill is turned off and completely cool before starting.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Where You Can Use Grillacoat

Suitable surfaces (examples):

  • Outer lid and body
  • Inside of the hood (non-cooking surfaces only)
  • Firebox exterior
  • Side shelves (non-cutting, non-direct food contact zones)
  • Control panel area
  • Lower cabinets, doors, and legs
  • Exterior hardware (hinges, brackets, etc.)

Do NOT use on:

  • Grill grates and cooking grates
  • Smoker racks, warming racks, or any direct food-contact surface
  • Cutting boards, butcher blocks, or prep surfaces where food is sliced directly
  • Unstable or severely flaking paint or heavy rust without proper prep

Directions for Use – New or Well-Maintained Grills

Follow these steps for grills that are new, recently purchased, or already in reasonably good condition.

1. Prepare the Surface

  1. Ensure the grill is off, cool, and disconnected from any fuel source (gas, pellets, etc.).
  2. Clean all target surfaces (exterior and non-cooking interior areas): Remove dust, loose debris, grease, and residue with a mild cleaner or degreaser if needed. Wipe with a clean cloth until visibly clean.
  3. Final wipe with rubbing alcohol: Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with rubbing alcohol. Wipe down the areas where Grillacoat will be applied. This step helps remove remaining oils and ensures the surface is completely clean and dry.
  4. Allow surfaces to air-dry completely before applying Grillacoat.

2. Apply Grillacoat

  1. Shake or mix the product if instructed on the bottle.
  2. Add several drops of Grillacoat to the provided applicator pad - you want a generous amount.
  3. Working in sections, gently spread the product over the surface: Use smooth, overlapping strokes. Aim for a thin, even layer – avoid heavy buildup or dripping.
  4. Continue around the grill, reapplying a few drops to the pad as needed.
  5. Check for uniform coverage under good lighting. The surface should appear evenly coated, not streaky or heavily wet.

3. Dry & Initial Cure

  1. Once application is complete, allow the coated surfaces to dry undisturbed for 12–24 hours.
  2. Keep the grill covered or protected from moisture and dust during this time if possible.

Do not use the grill or expose the treated areas to high heat until the minimum drying time has passed. Then allow grill to fully heat and cool once before use.

4. Coverage Recommendations

For maximum protection and longevity:

  • Coat all exterior surfaces and any non-cooking surfaces under the hood that are prone to grease, smoke, or weathering.

Directions for Use – Used, Weathered, or Rusted Grills

For grills that are heavily used, stained, or lightly rusted, take additional prep steps for best results.

1. Deep Cleaning

  1. Ensure the grill is off, cool, and safe to work on.
  2. Remove loose debris, grease, and soot using: A non-scratch scouring pad, A soft brush, A grill-safe degreaser or cleaner suitable for painted/enameled metal
  3. Rinse or wipe away all cleaner residue with clean water or damp cloths.
  4. Allow surfaces to dry completely.

2. Treating Rust & Stubborn Buildup (if present)

  1. For light surface rust: Gently scrub the area with a fine abrasive pad or steel wool until most rust is removed. Wipe away any dust with a clean, dry cloth.
  2. For heavier rust or damaged paint: Remove loose, flaking material as much as possible. If needed, touch up with a high-heat, grill-safe paint following the paint manufacturer’s instructions and fully cure it before applying Grillacoat.
  3. Once repaired or cleaned, proceed with a final wipe-down using rubbing alcohol on all areas you plan to coat.

3. Apply Grillacoat (Used Grills)

  • Follow the same application steps as for new grills: Apply Grillacoat in thin, even layers using the provided applicator pad. Work in small sections and avoid cooking surfaces.
  • Pay extra attention to: Areas prone to rust (edges, seams, and corners), Surfaces exposed to weather (lid tops, shelves, cabinet doors)

4. Dry, Cure & Inspect

  1. Allow the coating to dry for 12–24 hours.
  2. After drying, visually inspect: If certain high-wear or heavily weathered areas still look dry or unprotected, you may apply a second thin coat and repeat the drying period.

Drying, Curing & First Use

  1. Drying time: Let Grillacoat dry for 12–24 hours before using your grill.
  2. First heat cycle (optional but recommended): Once dry, you may perform a short warm-up cycle: Light the grill, keeping burners on a medium setting. Allow the grill to run for 15–20 minutes with the lid closed. This helps the coating settle on exterior and non-cooking interior surfaces. Also tempers the coating for a long lasting experience.
  3. Cool down completely before cleaning or covering the grill.

During this process, remember that Grillacoat is not on your cooking grates.

Ongoing Care & Reapplication

After each use:

  • Allow the grill to cool to a safe temperature.
  • Wipe treated surfaces with a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge.
  • Avoid harsh scouring pads or aggressive chemicals on coated areas.

Reapply Grillacoat when:

  • You notice water no longer beads on the surface.
  • The finish looks dull or more difficult to clean.
  • Heavy weather exposure (sun, rain, snow, coastal air) has gradually reduced protection.

Simply repeat the clean, alcohol wipe, and apply steps as needed.

Pro Tips

  • Test first: On a small, hidden section to confirm compatibility and appearance.
  • Avoid over-application: Thin, even layers perform better and look more uniform.
  • Mind the labels: Be cautious around printed temperature markings or decals; avoid rubbing aggressively over printed areas.
  • Storage: Store Grillacoat in a cool, dry place with the cap tightly closed.
